Who Qualifies for an Admission Application Fee Waiver
If you wish to apply but the application fee is a financial burden, you can request an application fee waiver.
A waiver will be considered for situations like, but not limited to:
- You’ve submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and are eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
- You’ve received or are eligible to receive an ACT or SAT testing fee waiver.
- You’re eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced Price Lunch program (FRPL).
- Your family’s annual income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
- You’re enrolled in a federal, state, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., TRIO programs, such as Upward Bound).
- Your family receives public assistance.
- You live in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home, or are homeless.
- You’re a ward of the state or an orphan.
- Vocational Rehabilitation or Veteran’s Administration is paying part or all of your educational expenses.
- Your familial circumstances make the application fee an excessive burden.
You will be automatically considered for an admissions application fee waiver, and will not be required or prompted to pay an application fee when submitting your Common App if you are:
- A first-time Freshman who has a permanent address in Utah or attend(ed) a tribal high school located in Utah
- Military Connected
* Students who are on or requesting a visa are not eligible for a fee waiver.
Request an Extension to Pay Your Enrollment Deposit
If you have confirmed your intent to enroll but feel the $300 enrollment deposit is a financial burden, you can request an extension.
An extension will be considered for situations like, but not limited to:
- You’ve submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and is eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant.
- Proof of government assistance such as food stamps, enrollment in a low-income assistance program like TRIO or Upward Bound, or eligibility for reduced-price school lunch.
- An official letter printed on letterhead from a school counselor, employer, or ecclesiastical leader attesting to your financial situation.
- Vocational Rehabilitation or Veteran’s Administration is paying part or all of your educational expenses.

How to Apply for an Admission Application Fee Waiver
Submit documents in person at our office, by fax, mail, or email attachment via UMail account. Emailed attachments and general questions can be sent to the following email: admissions_feewaivers@utah.edu.
Once documents are received and reviewed, an application fee waiver may be granted.

Freshman Applicants
Complete the top portion of the NACAC Freshman Fee Waiver Form and have an authorized school official complete the bottom portion.
You may also submit one of the following instead of the NACAC form:
- Proof of government assistance such as food stamps, enrollment in a low-income assistance program like TRIO or Upward Bound, or eligibility for reduced-price school lunches.
- An official letter printed on letterhead from a school counselor, employer, or ecclesiastical leader attesting to your financial situation.
Non-freshman Applicants
Complete the NACAC Transfer Fee Waiver Form and any additional documentation to support your request, such as:
